Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented designer/drafter with strong proficiency in Solid Works to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating accurate 3D models and detailed drawings of wind turbine components and custom tooling used in manufacturing, maintenance, and assembly process. This role requires a solid understanding of mechanical design, tolerancing, materials, and fabrication processes.
Responsibilities- Develop and revise 3D CAD models and 2D drawings in Solid Works for wind turbine components (Nacelles, Gearboxes, Main shafts, etc.).
- Design and document custom tooling and fixtures to support manufacturing and maintenance operations.
- Interpret engineering specification, functional requirements, and project scopes to create compliant designs.
- Collaborate with engineers, machinists, and managers to ensure designs are feasible and cost-effective.
- Prepare detailed fabrication drawings including BOMs, GD&T, and assembly instructions.
- Support design reviews, prototyping, and field implementation of new components or tools.
- Maintain organized CAD files and documentation according to internal standards and revision control.
- Incorporate feedback from FEA simulations, prototyping, and field testing into design iterations.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices in wind turbine design and tooling.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering (or related engineering field).
- Experience using Solid Works (or similar CAD software) in a mechanical design or drafting role.
- Strong understanding of mechanical drafting standards, GD&T, and fabrication techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical drawings.
- Experience designing large mechanical assemblies and/or rotating machinery.
- Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and technical reporting.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to design quality and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to travel as required.
