PositionWe are currently seeking a Civil Project Engineer in our South Dakota office. As a Civil Project Engineer
, you will be responsible for assisting Project Managers with detailed engineering analysis in the preparation of engineering reports, permit applications and construction plan preparation. You will direct and train Civil Design Technicians and/or Civil Designers.
- Independently evaluate, plan, and conduct work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation/modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Devise new alternatives/approaches to problems and perform difficult and technically challenging work with a specialty area.
- Exercise project leadership in a technical or managerial way on certain projects or oversee portions of large projects.
- Draft procedures and system requirements of clients.
- Coordination of municipal, transportation, traffic, and other disciplines.
- Prepare permit applications for a variety of municipalities.
- Flexible pavement design and rigid pavement design.
- Geometric pavement and site circulation design.
- Preparation of specifications & cost estimates.
- Traffic warrants and guardrail warrants.
- Ensure work is reviewed by peers or supervisors as required.
- Direct and train Civil Designers to assist in completing reports, exhibits, plans and specifications and permit applications as required by the project’s contractual scope.
- Additional functions include those listed in Civil Designers’ responsibilities.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineer license.
- A minimum of 4 years of qualifying experience.
- This position is not eligible for sponsorship.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans and drawings.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction.
- Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs and AutoCAD Civil 3D software.
- Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups.
- An understanding of materials and methods.
- Ability to interpret state and local design criteria and apply it to the specific project needs.
- Ability to consistently produce high quality construction documents.
