Job Summary & Responsibilities
The CAD Drafter is responsible for the development of complete and accurate CAD models, drawings, and design documents for systems using AutoCAD and other Computer Aided Design software tools. The CAD Drafter works under the close guidance of Designers and Engineers across multiple engineering disciplines to not only develop knowledge and skills but also to create proper construction documents.
- Create and modify CAD piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&’s) under close supervision of the CAD Systems Manager.
- Update and modify P&’s based on online comments and mark‑ups from designers, engineers, and managers.
- Create and modify 3D CAD models under close supervision from designers, engineers, and managers.
- Create and modify assembly, erection, fabrication, detail, and other drawings; modify drawings based on mark‑ups from Designers, Engineers, and Managers from Mechanical, Milling and Material Handling, Structural, and Civil.
- Maintain CAD files and drawings based on POET Standards and office procedures.
- Read and comprehend design drawings and equipment data sheets.
- Perform site visits to measure and confirm design requirements.
- Provide information, when needed, for cost estimating.
- Meet all safety, budget, and schedule requirements.
- Assist with on‑site commissioning and start‑up activities.
- Communicate with vendors and contractors on various projects, including bid packages, ordering materials and equipment, and aiding in installation oversight.
- Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.
- Maintain a team environment at all times and champion POET in the community.
Associate’s degree or greater with emphasis in CAD Drafting preferred.
- Experience requirements:
- CAD Drafter I:
No experience required. - CAD Drafter II: 3 or more years of overall experience with 2 or more years of experience in a related industry.
- CAD Drafter I:
- Knowledge of AutoCAD based drafting systems.
- Excellent organization and time management skills with a sense of urgency that drives results.
- Knowledge of the basics of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new programs.

The work environment at POET is dynamic. You should expect a balance between time spent in the office and at the bioprocessing facility, which may include some physical labor helping your team members. 15% travel with some overnight stays is required during commissioning efforts.
- Occasionally lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds or less.
- Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders.
- Occasionally bending, twisting, and turning while lifting weights of less than fifty (50) pounds.
- Walking of two (2) or more miles per day.
- Working at heights, in confined spaces, and at temperatures from ‑20 to +100 degrees.
- Standing for extended periods of time.
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
