Washington Pavilion Management, Inc. (WPMI) is seeking an experienced and organized Technical Services Manager to oversee all technical operations at the Washington Pavilion and Orpheum Theater Center. This position is responsible for supervising technical staff, managing stage and production logistics, maintaining safety protocols, coordinating labor and equipment needs, and ensuring seamless execution of events both onsite and offsite.

The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to excellence in performing arts production. This is a hands-on role requiring a collaborative approach and the ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise, schedule, and coordinate technical staff and stagehands (full-time and part-time), including supplemental crew from outside agencies.

Act as the primary onsite technical contact for all local and touring productions.

Plan and oversee all aspects of production logistics including load-ins, builds, show runs, and strikes.

Develop and manage technical labor budgets and equipment expenses; track costs and ensure adherence to financial plans.

Hire and onboard technical staff, provide training, and promote ongoing skill development.

Ensure the safety and upkeep of all technical systems and equipment; lead efforts for maintenance, repair, and capital improvements.

Coordinate technical needs and priorities for events across multiple venues, including offsite and outdoor locations.

Protect equipment, assets, and facility surfaces during production and usage.

Ensure safety compliance and establish clear procedures for all technical areas.

Support and supervise front-of-house setups for bars, merchandise tables, and pre-show events as needed.

Serve as a working member of the crew when needed to support the team.

Foster a collaborative, educational environment that supports continuous learning and cross-training.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in technical theater, event production, or a related field.

Minimum 4 years of supervisory experience in technical production or stage management.

Demonstrated knowledge of stage operations, safety standards, and technical equipment including lighting, sound, and rigging.

Familiarity with reading and interpreting technical riders, production plots, and orchestral stage diagrams.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and design software (Vectorworks or equivalent).

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to lead and mentor diverse teams.

Experience working in performing arts, museums, non-profits, or facilities management is a plus.

This role requires work in both indoor and outdoor venues, often in environments with noise, stage lighting, and mechanical systems. Physical demands include climbing, lifting, and manual handling of equipment during event setups and breakdowns.
