Position SummaryService First is looking for a full‑time Mortgage Loan Originator. Responsible for assisting members in their home financing needs and guiding them through the mortgage application process from qualification to closing. You will collaborate closely with borrowers, real estate agents, and other stakeholders to ensure a seamless mortgage experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Develop mortgage loan business through member seminars and calls to realtors, contractors, and other institutions.
- Foster and maintain strong relationships with real estate agents, builders, and other referral sources.
- Develop and expand member relationships through referrals to other banking departments.
- Establish and monitor control procedures for the first‑mortgage loan portfolio.
- Evaluate member applications, including credit history, income verification, and debt‑to‑income ratios.
- Assist members in completing mortgage applications and gathering required documentation.
- Obtain and evaluate credit bureau reports on applicants.
- Provide expert advice on loan products, rates, terms, and the mortgage process.
- Pull credit reports for all accounts, verify debts, analyze income, debts, and creditworthiness and estimate monthly payments for any outstanding debts not listed and add them to debts on application.
- Approve or deny real‑estate loan applications, and explain reasons for the denial.
- Conduct pre‑qualifications for potential borrowers.
- Ensure that each real‑estate loan is processed accurately.
- Prepare loan files for underwriting and follow up on the status of applications.
- Maintain correspondence with borrowers, processors, and realtors to ensure a successful loan closing.
- Prepare mortgage loan application and document packet for closing.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of member interactions and loan applications.
- Train new mortgage loan officers.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and state lending regulations and credit union policies.

Required Education and Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or related field preferred.
- Previous experience as a Mortgage Loan Officer or in a related role preferred.
- In‑depth knowledge of mortgage products, underwriting processes, and lending regulations preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient in using mortgage software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- NMLS (Nationwide Multistate Licensing System) licensed or the ability to obtain licensing shortly after hire.
- Travel to and from Service First locations and traveling withing field of membership may be required.
