South Dakota State University’s College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions is seeking an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice. This approximately 50/50 academic‑clinical position offers the opportunity to step into a well‑established inpatient psychiatric pharmacy practice at Avera Behavioral Health Hospital, where the pharmacist functions as an embedded member of an interprofessional behavioral health team.
This position is a 12‑month, full‑time, benefits‑eligible, non‑tenure track faculty position located in Sioux Falls
, South Dakota.

The College of Pharmacy offers a six‑year course of study leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.
D.) degree and has offered the successful entry‑level Pharm.
D. program since 1994. The Department of Pharmacy Practice provides classroom and clerkship instruction for the last two years of the Pharm.
D. degree program and contributes classroom instruction and early experiential training for the pharmaceutical sciences phase of the degree. Faculty are embedded at various practice sites which provide students with the opportunity for varied learning experiences. The University, College, and Department place a strong emphasis on faculty mentoring, offer faculty professional development, and practice sustainability.
Avera is a mission‑based, regionally integrated health system with more than 300 locations throughout South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska serving largely rural communities and a population of over 1 million people throughout its footprint. At the heart of the behavioral health services is the Avera Behavioral Health Hospital, a dedicated 160‑bed freestanding facility in Sioux Falls, SD. The hospital provides comprehensive, compassionate care with specialized programs for children and adolescents, senior care, residential addiction treatment for youth, 24/7 psychiatric urgent care, partial hospitalization, and a full range of outpatient therapies.
The experienced pharmacy team – consisting of seven pharmacists supported by skilled technicians and interns – collaborates closely to deliver expert psychiatric medication management and support across these services.

Key ResponsibilitiesPrimary responsibilities include maintaining a viable psychiatric pharmacy practice with specific focus in inpatient pharmacy application, didactic instruction, precepting on‑site students, actively engaging in practice‑informed scholarship including quality improvement, clinical research, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning, and contributing to various committees within both the academic and healthcare settings. The typical workload breakdown for this position is 50% clinical service, 35% teaching, 10% research, and 5% general service.
