Pay Range: $21.75 - $33.00 (actual pay depends on experience)

Position Highlights
  • Monday - Friday 5:30am start and as late as 6:00pm, PRN as needed
  • Every other weekend rotation 5-8 hour shifts depending on the assignment
  • Interpreter professional training and/or professional experience in healthcare interpretation
Overview

Responsible for relaying accurate medical information and facilitating the successful delivery of patient services to diverse language segments in compliance with all office, clinic and hospital policies and procedures, particularly relating to patient confidentiality and informed consent.

Responsible for written translations required in patient encounters including, but not limited to, forms, care instructions, medication schedules, patient letters, or other identified documents and patient materials.

What You Will Do
  • Serve as the facilitator to successfully deliver language patient services to linguistically diverse consumers and functions as a cultural and linguistic resource to both patients and providers.
  • Provide a high level of customer service with a positive approach and perform duties in a spirit of teamwork and cooperation.
  • Show familiarity and ability to work with diverse cultural/social-economic backgrounds as well as general knowledge of cultural backgrounds.
  • Provide written translations in patient encounters, including completion of forms, medical instructions, and medication schedules; administrative translations such as letters to patients and other materials.
  • Support office operations by answering the phone, checking voice mails and following up as needed.
  • Take and schedule interpreter requests, verify and schedule future appointments and document patient encounters.
  • Facilitate special projects as assigned, including on-the-job training and mentoring of interpreter internships.
  • Travel to various facilities may be required.
Essential Qualifications
  • The individual must be able to work the hours specified.
  • Must have visual acuity adequate to perform position duties.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, hear, understand and distinguish speech and other sounds.
  • Requires technical certificate.
  • Proof of English/Spanish fluency, both oral and written, through certified accredited institution or established by passing interpreter’s skills test administered through Avera.
  • Must pass a medical terminology test.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Some college of interpreter training.
  • Some college of health science experience in a healthcare setting as a medical interpreter with strong medical vocabulary.
