Educational Sign Language Interpreter - 1.0 FTE

EssentialFunctions & Duties
- Interpret oral communication into sign language and signed communication into spoken English in general education classes (including American Sign Language, Manually Coded English, Pidgin Signed English, and/or oral interpreting).
- Facilitate communication among students who are deaf or hard of hearing, classroom teachers, and other district personnel.
- Provide direct tutorial assistance in areas of academic support.
- Convey the content of the message clearly and accurately according to the student’s receptive language level.
- Adhere to confidentiality rules required of all school staff and maintain professional standards as defined in the Code of Ethics of the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
- Participate in educational team activities, in person or via report—team meetings, Individualized Education Program (IEP) conferences, Multidisciplinary Team meetings, and informal staff meetings, providing valuable input on communication strategies and progress.
- Assist in communication throughout the school day as stated in the IEP.
- Preview materials, confer with teachers, record data in logs, research signs, etc.
- Supplemental duties may be assigned as necessary.
Education Level: Registered and certified in the state of South Dakota, holding a level III South Dakota Certificate, level III NAD certificate, RID certificate, NIC, or a South Dakota provisional certificate. Candidates must also be an individual certified by the department using the EIPA assessment score of 3.5 or higher.

Physical RequirementsRequires frequent periods of sitting, standing, walking, and speaking.
Pay & HoursStarting at $29.02 per hour

Pay day: the last working day of each month.
Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm with a 30‑minute unpaid lunch.
1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week, 9 months.
