Position SummaryThe Maintenance Technician performs mechanical and/or electrical maintenance on plant equipment to ensure optimal efficiency, reliability, and overall facility condition. Responds to call‑outs as needed to maintain plant availability. Primary responsibility is to perform high‑quality welding and metal fabrication tasks to support the repair, modification, and structural integrity of plant systems and equipment. While primarily focused on welding projects, the technician will also support maintenance activities such as module maintenance and plant improvement projects.
The role supports planning efforts and inventory control, prepares reports, maintains compliance with regulations, and promotes a safe work environment.
- Perform code‑compliant welding on piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, boiler tubes, ductwork, and support structures.
- Execute various welding processes (SMAW, GTAW/TIG, GMAW/MIG, FCAW) on materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, and specialty alloys.
- Fabricate brackets, frames, guards, and other components from shop drawings, isometrics, or field measurements.
- Use cutting, grinding, beveling, and forming tools for prep work and post‑weld finishing.
- Identify opportunities for plant improvements related to maintenance activities, equipment reliability, and safety.
- Accountable for tasks where errors can have significant consequences and may not be subject to direct oversight.
- Interpret blueprints, P&IDs, and welding symbols to ensure proper fit‑up and weld quality.
- Maintain traceability and documentation of weld procedures, repairs, and materials used.
- Coordinate and support others in completing assignments within defined schedules and priorities.
- Support outage and turnaround work by preparing, modifying, or replacing large welded assemblies under time‑sensitive conditions.
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of technical/vocational training is strongly preferred.
- 3+ years of directly related welding experience with a solid understanding of health and safety regulations.
- Proficiency in SMAW, TIG, MIG, and FCAW welding processes.
- Skilled in welding carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy steels used in high‑temperature/pressure service.
- Experience fabricating and repairing components such as valves, pumps, piping, and boiler components.
- Capable of interpreting blueprints, P&IDs, and welding symbols.
- Proficient in operating cutting, grinding, and forming tools (plasma cutters, torches, bevelers, etc.).
- Strong understanding of hot‑work safety protocols, including fire watch, gas testing, and confined space entry.
- Hands‑on experience with maintenance of industrial steam boilers, battery storage systems, and high‑temperature fluid loops.
- Experience with boiler operations and steam systems.
- Experience with lifting equipment such as telehandlers and small cranes.
