The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. The NA provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to the assigned resident under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The NA delivers age‑appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per the care plan. The NA is expected to follow infection prevention and control policies and use personal protective equipment.

The NA assists with basic health‑care needs, including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support. The NA helps residents transfer, reposition and walk using proper techniques and equipment, provides range‑of‑motion and passive exercises, completes food preparation and dining tasks, and creates a positive dining experience. The NA assists residents with meals, snacks, and water intake.

The NA aids providers and nursing staff with procedures, documents resident interactions, records outcomes related to resident care, behavior, activity, and dietary, communicates changes in the resident’s condition to the charge nurse, collects non‑invasive specimens, gathers vital signs, provides housekeeping and laundry services, assists with wellness and recreational programs, encourages participation, and may participate in departmental or organizational committees and task forces.

• Perform bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, relocation, and basic health‑care tasks.
• Record vital signs and maintain documentation of resident interactions.
• Assist with meals, diet, and water intake.
• Assist with housekeeping, laundry, and environmental upkeep.
• Encourage participation in wellness and recreational programs.
• Communicate resident condition changes to the charge nurse.
• Collect specimens and gather vital signs as directed.
• Assist in nursing procedures when required.
• Participate in committees and task forces as needed.

• High school graduate or GED (preferred but not required).
• Minimum age 16.
• Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care (preferred).
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required within four months of position start or enrollment in training program; certification is provided by the facility.
• Complete yearly competency testing and maintain continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually).
• Maintain all required certifications.
• Driver classification may be required depending on duties.
