Job Summary
Answers patient inquiries over the telephone, assessing the severity of the patient’s symptoms and medical needs according to triage algorithms. Guides the patient to the appropriate level of care; schedules patient appointments over the phone with appropriate healthcare providers/facilities/physicians. Documents information provided to patients during triage in health record systems; records patients’ health conditions for follow‑up care. Maintains and develops triage protocols;
ensures patients’ healthcare information is updated on time. Role does answer inquiries through multiple variations of technology, depending on department. Educates patients based on calls that come in.
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program (e.g., AACN, ACEN, NLN CNEA) preferred;
Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred. - One year of healthcare experience preferred.
- Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where practice occurs, or multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact state.
- Within the first 30 days of employment, completes all requirements to obtain any licenses needed for the role.
- Obtains and subsequently maintains required department‑specific competencies and certifications.
