Pay Range: $22.50 - $41.25 (Actual pay rate dependent upon experience)

If you are passionate about providing compassionate, high‑quality care to patients on their cancer journey, the Avera Cancer Institute is looking for a dedicated Medical Oncology Nurse to join our collaborative team. Responsibilities include providing hands‑on patient care, including assessments, vitals, and education; coordinating clinic activities to ensure seamless care; supporting scheduling and order entry; triaging patient and caregiver phone calls, utilizing protocols and critical thinking to provide timely support.

Job Summary

Provides for the delivery of professional nursing care under the direction of the provider.

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Board of Nursing – An active license in the state of practice if required upon hire.

LPN wages: $22.50–$31.50
RN wages: $27.75–$41.25

Responsibilities
  • Perform general nursing care for patients; administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Coordinate the patient care activities for the clinic.
  • Prepare equipment and assist provider during procedures, treatments, examinations, and testing of patients.
  • Observe, record, and report patient’s condition and reactions to drugs and treatments to provider.
  • Oversee appointment scheduling and ensure preferences are given to patients in emergency situations; maintain timely flow of patients.
  • Greet patients and prepare them for physical examination; screen patients for appropriate information including obtaining the health history, taking vitals, and conducting a nursing assessment; document obtained information in patient chart; instruct patient in collection of samples and tests.
  • Respond to patient phone calls in a timely manner with appropriate input from the physician.
  • Educate patients and families about diagnostic process, medications, nutrition, and maintenance of health and wellness.
  • Suggest solutions to patient care crisis problems and complaints.
  • Maintain exam rooms with necessary supplies and materials; ensure cleanliness; prepare list of medical supplies needed.
  • Assure appropriate labeling of pathology specimens according to lab protocol as needed; perform quality control and maintain records on all lab testing.
