Job Summary

A Concrete Finisher is responsible for placing, finishing, protecting, and repairing concrete in a variety of construction projects, including slabs, sidewalks, foundations, curbs, driveways, and other structural elements. The finisher ensures the final surface is smooth, properly textured, and meets specified tolerances and aesthetic standards. This is a hands‑on, physically demanding role that requires attention to detail and knowledge of concrete behavior.

Hours

A typical workweek is Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, actual working hours and days may vary due to project deadlines;
May require weekend or evening work at times.

Key Accountabilities
  • Place, level, smooth, and shape freshly poured concrete using hand and power tools.
  • Apply finishing techniques such as edging, floating, brooming, and troweling.
  • Cut expansion joints using saws and patch voids as needed.
  • Lead finishing efforts on‑site when required.
  • Read and understand construction drawings and survey stakes.
  • Align and secure forms for slabs, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and other structures.
  • Ensure proper slope, elevation, and alignment of concrete elements.
  • Monitor concrete setting times and adjust techniques based on weather and mix conditions.
  • Inspect finished surfaces for defects and correct as needed.
  • Maintain a strong attention to detail and uphold CSU’s standards of craftsmanship.
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE.
  • Work safely in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, direct sunlight).
  • Lift heavy materials and perform physically demanding tasks such as kneeling, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Communicate clearly with the foreman and team regarding progress and needs.
  • Support other team members in completing tasks on time and within scope.
  • Travel to different job sites as needed and maintain reliable transportation.
Required

Skills & Qualifications
  • Minimum 3+ years of concrete finishing experience on commercial or industrial projects.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Skilled in using hand and power tools associated with concrete finishing (e.g., trowels, floats, edgers, jointers, power screeds).
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and layout instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship, ensuring a high-quality finish.
  • Good physical condition with the ability to lift heavy materials, kneel, bend, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, or direct sunlight.
  • Reliable transportation to job sites and flexibility to travel to different locations if needed.
