POSITION SUMMARY
A Sheet Metal Foreman is responsible for overseeing the installation, assembly, and repair of sheet metal products and equipment, such as ducts, control boxes, drainpipes, and furnace casings. They also play a key role in project planning, scheduling, and execution.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervising and coordinating the activities of the sheet metal team in the shop or on jobsite
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, or product specifications to determine the sequence and methods of fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal products
- Allocating resources for assigned projects
- Inspecting work to ensure it conforms to specifications and work schedules
- Ensuring all safety protocols and procedures are followed to maintain a safe working environment
- Training and guiding team members in sheet metal installation, maintenance, and repair tasks
- Communicating with clients, contractors, and project managers to provide updates and discuss potential issues
- Making sure that the job is completed within the estimated time and material costs for project tasks
- Ensuring the maintenance of tools and equipment used in sheet metal operations
- Checking work progress and the quality of the finished products to ensure they meet the required standards
- Troubleshooting and resolving any issues or delays that arise during projects
- Handling administrative tasks such as maintaining employee records and preparing reports
- Training new workers in their tasks, safety protocols, and company procedures

- Understanding and adherence to safety regulations and procedures to maintain a safe and productive work environment.

- Customer service skills to understand client requirements and deliver results that meet or exceed their expectations.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- At least 5 years of experience in sheet metal installation or maintenance roles.
- Hands-on experience provides a deep understanding of sheet metal fabrication and installation processes, safety protocols, and quality assurance.
- Candidates with over 3 years of experience can typically handle more complex projects, including ductwork fabrication and installation, roof flashing, and metal siding.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and follow specific job orders.
- More than 7 years of experience may include leadership or supervisory roles.
- Experience in project management, team leadership, and an ability to oversee and direct other sheet metal workers is crucial.
- Completion of an apprenticeship program or vocational training in sheet metal work, welding, or a related field may be required.
