HVAC Sr Controls Service Tech

What You Will Do

Under minimal supervision, you will conduct preventive maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning, as well as general servicing of building automation and control systems, including detailed troubleshooting of systems.

• Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction through direct, on‑site customer interface.
• Mentor control technicians, service technicians, and mechanical technicians on building automation activities.
• Properly complete required project and service documentation.
• Provide customers with the highest level of service to solve building inefficiencies and resolve service‑related items.
• Act as a trusted advisor, providing solutions and outcomes at the time of service.
• Diagnose and repair complex control systems malfunctions requiring extensive knowledge of electronic or digital controls and multiple programming languages.
• Consult with customers through data gathering and site assessments.
• Provide field proposals for retrofits, upgrades, or enhancements to existing equipment.
• Assist sales by providing technical recommendations for sales leads.
• Manage assigned work to meet professional and efficient execution of time and customer satisfaction.
• Report problems or changes to management immediately.
• Interface with branch manager, service manager, service project manager, or subcontractors to coordinate activities as required ethically and professionally.
• Provide sketches of field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings.
• Assist with job layouts, bid proposals, and coordinate factory‑mounting processes to meet schedule.
• Train customers on control systems operations and provide manuals and documentation.
• Mentor certification of Control and Service Technicians on complex building automation systems.
• Compile job documentation such as certificates of completion, training forms, and punch lists.
• Conduct extensive self‑study to improve and maintain technical proficiency.
• Complete required certifications as set by the company.

• Create flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bill of material, network layouts, and electrical schematics as required.
• Assist in the design and configuration of building control systems per contract documents.
• Develop and test software programs necessary to operate the system.
• Compile and/or complete project as built and close‑out documentation.
• Assist coordination and creation of drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation.
• Select, order, and track the delivery of materials for assigned projects.
• Assist in loading and commissioning of all system and network‑level controllers.
• Validate complete system functionality and troubleshoot problems with subcontractors and other trades.
• Provide field change information to the project team for as‑built drawings and software.
• Keep management and customers informed of job progress and issues.
• Assist in performing site‑specific training for owners/operators on the total building control system.
• Participate in release meetings with project field teams.
• Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facility efficiency, including upselling opportunities and quotes.

• Minimum of 4 years Commercial Controls troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry, including buildings, chiller plants, and systems.
• Graduation from a Vocational School program or an associate’s degree in a technical field, or at least two years’ experience in servicing electronic and/or mechanical systems.
• Demonstrated ability to install and/or service electronic control systems and HVAC equipment.
• Effective communication skills to represent Johnson Controls on customer sites.
• Ability to explain technical information to technical and non‑technical people.
