POSITION SUMMARYThe Employment Specialist for Veteran Services conducts client intake interviews to assess needs for employment services, housing, and other community services, ensuring a comprehensive approach to support. This role assists veterans with employment counseling, interviews, placement, and job leads, facilitating their path to stable employment, the specialist also provides job postings and employment resources to qualified veterans, including placement and follow-up.
Ensuring dual enrollment with the Department of Labor for homeless veterans and referring those not currently signed up to receive services from the VA improves access to services designed to reduce barriers to employment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Program Development- A. Review grant and reporting requirements.
- B. Complete training on HVRP Standard Operating Procedures and all other required trainings.
- C. Develop and maintain a working relationship with community resources that will provide client support and employment outcomes.
- A. Facilitate HVRP evaluations with veterans to determine veterans’ employment goals and the services and supports needed to achieve goals.
- B. In collaboration with veterans, develop Individualized Employment and Job Training Plans.
- C. Provide comprehensive, job-driven case management to ensure the provision of both general and specialized training (either directly or through referral).
- D. Assist with employment counseling, interviews, placement, and job leads, facilitating their path to stable employment.
- E. Provide job postings and employment resources to qualified veterans, including placement.
- F. Facilitate enrollment in SD DLR/AJC services as needed.
- G. Maintain client files and update progress.
- H. Provide monthly reports on outcomes related to employment goals.
- I. Contact veterans to collect necessary follow-up data
- J. Provide employment adjustment services to aid in job retention
- K. Review program performance data and participate in quality improvement efforts as needed.
Responsible to carry out other duties as assigned to support program operations and goals.
POSITIONS QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS & ABILITIESEducation: High School Diploma or GED is required.
Experience: Two years related work experience. Military service or experience preferred.
Skills: Excellent communication and employment related skills
Licenses: Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSA. Ability to Stand, Walk, sit, manually manipulate, reach outward and above shoulders, speak, climb, crawl, squat, kneel, and bend on a daily basis
B. Capability to Lift, carry, push or pull up to 25 lbs on a daily basis
