Credit Decisioning TeamThe Credit Decisioning team is essential to every transaction at Affirm, providing scalable underwriting decisions for integrated point‑of‑sale (POS) merchants and wallet platforms across the US, Canada, and the UK. This role is within the Credit Expansion sub‑team, which focuses on responsibly increasing access to credit while ensuring consistent decision‑making for our users. A key part of the team’s work involves developing new underwriting features and products to support entry into new markets and partnerships.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with others to ensure timely delivery.
- Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics by participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that properly consider risks and trade‑offs.
- Support the operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting “keep the lights on” and on‑call efforts.
- Engage in growth and development activities such as participation in the interview process to contribute to a sense of community on the team.
- 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
- Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems and proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
- Familiarity with building blocks of distributed systems, and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
- Ability to take a simple problem or business scenario into a solution that interacts with multiple software components, writing clear, well‑tested, and extensible code.
- Comfort navigating a large code base, debugging others’ code, and providing feedback through code reviews.
- Ownership of growth and proactive seeking of feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills supporting effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
- Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents).
- USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT) per year: $160,000 – $210,000
- USA base pay range (all other U.S. states) per year: $142,000 – $192,000
