Innovate is looking for a Software Engineer to support the Technical Support Services Contract (TSSC) at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center near Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This entry- to mid-level role will contribute to the development of web-based mapping tools and geospatial applications supporting science initiatives such as wildland fire management, drought monitoring, and land cover mapping.
Location: Hybrid in Sioux Falls, SD
Salary range: $69,000-$96,000 annually
Position status: Full Time; with benefits

Minimum qualifications: Applicants must have maintained residency in the United States for at least three years and must be able to successfully complete and maintain a National Agency Check and background investigation after hire to obtain required facility access credentials and user accounts.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Develop and maintain websites and mapping applications for visualizing and distributing geospatial data.
- Develop Python scripts that produce geospatial data products.
- Support a diverse array of technologies including PHP, Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and XML.
- Collaborate with a skilled web development team supporting the USGS EROS Integrated Science Applications Branch.
- Bachelor's degree in software engineering or computer science.
- 3-5 years of recent and related work experience.
- Experience with web design, administration, and database-driven applications.
- Experience with JavaScript frameworks and libraries such as React, jQuery, Open Layers, and Leaflet, with strong proficiency in HTML and CSS.
- Experience with Python and PHP.
- Experience with databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL.
- Experience with security concepts and collaboration software.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong knowledge of software engineering methodologies and processes.
- Familiarity with cloud providers and cloud concepts, such as AWS or Azure.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes or other container technologies.
- Familiarity with requirements and design analysis.
- Experience with testing and configuration management tools such as Git.
- Experience with geospatial tools, commercial or open source, including analysis, visualization, or data handling workflows.
- Knowledge of OGC standards, including WMS, WFS, WCS, WPS, and OGC APIs.
- Familiarity with projections, reference systems, and spatial data transformations.
- Experience and/or education in lieu of these qualifications will be reviewed for applicability to meet these requirements.
