Bering Straits Native Corporation (BSNC) was formed as a result of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) in 1972. BSNC became the regional Alaska Native Corporation (ANC) for the Bering Strait region, which encompasses the majority of the Seward Peninsula and the coastal lands of eastern Norton Sound.
About this positionPayroll Specialist – Anchorage, AK
Applicants will be notified via phone or email within ten (10) business days of submittal.
Responsibilities- Enter and review bi‑weekly and semi‑monthly timesheets for union, SCA, non‑exempt and exempt employees.
- Under general supervision, perform the full payroll process for multi‑state employees, including auditing and processing incoming payroll data and assisting departments with applicable forms and processes.
- Process payroll from start to finish often against tight deadlines.
- Calculate exemption items such as bonus, garnishments and terminations.
- Compile, copy and insure that all filing and payroll reports are filed accurately and timely.
- Review and update employee leave records.
- Establish and maintain employee/payroll records.
- Maintain cooperative working relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for, a diverse population.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned within the Payroll Department.
- High‑school diploma or GED (or equivalent).
- At least one year of continuous payroll work experience.
- Experience processing payroll in a multi‑company and multi‑state environment.
- Must be able to operate office machines, including a computer, copier, fax and 10‑key, and perform arithmetic calculations.
- Ability to pass a drug, background and reference check.
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms and other office procedures.
- Managing one’s own time and coordinating time with others.
- The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others understand.
- Using computers and computer system software to enter data or process information.
- Ability to meet daily and weekly deadlines.
- Ability to balance multiple competing priorities.
- Good organizational and time‑management skills.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.

- FPC for PR Specialist II.
- Deltek Time & Expense experience.
- At least one year of experience with CBAs, WDs, and SCAs.
This position will not have supervisory responsibilities.

Essential and marginal functions may require frequent sitting, walking or occasional standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching of items weighing as much as 25 pounds; near visual acuity to review written documentation; ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels.
The work is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi‑line telephone system. The environment is primarily a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required.
Additional Qualifying Factors- As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre‑employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results.
- If applicable to the contract, you must obtain and maintain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
