Substitute Teacher Positions
Substitute teachers, aides, and temporary workers are at-will employees of the school district. Applicants must meet one of the following:
Non-Certified Substitute Hold a High School Diploma or equivalent Certified Substitute Teacher Hold a current State of Alaska Teaching Certificate Temporary workers are staff members who work less than 15 hours per week or hold other non-benefited positions, such as coaches.
Hourly Rates:
- Certified Substitute Teacher (valid Alaska Teaching Certificate): $30.00/hour
- Non-Certified Substitute Teacher (High School Diploma or equivalent): $25.00/hour
- Special Education Para Positions (Special Education Classroom Aides and Cross-Categorical Aides): $22.00/hour
- Standard Classified Substitutes (secretary, teaching assistant, custodian, etc.): $20.00/hour
Work Week:
Substitute employees are employed on an as-needed, on-call, day-to-day basis and are not guaranteed work on a regular basis.
Benefits:
There are no benefits associated with these positions.
Job Qualifications:
Must possess a high school diploma to be qualified as a Non-Certified applicant. Must possess a current Alaska Initial, Professional or Masters teacher certificate to be qualified as a Certified applicant. Ability to understand and follow directions; maintain effective classroom management strategies by remaining engaged and aware of students, and establish effective working relationships with staff and students.

- Once your New Hire Packet has been received and your background check has been completed, the HR Coordinator or HR Technician will contact you regarding the next orientation date.
- Please bring the following to human resources during orientation:
- IDs for I-9
- Bank documents for direct deposit
- Transcripts, if applicable
- $49 for fingerprints - we accept cash, check, credit cards, or money orders
- Applicants must attend orientation and be approved by human resources prior to working.
