Hourly J ($28.37 up to $46.54 DOE)
Terms:
Seasonal Full Time Position
- High school graduate or equivalent
- 21 years of age preferred
- Type 30 words per minute
- Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Emotionally mature with good common sense
- Reliable and able to handle serious and confidential situations
- Good oral and written communication skills, multi‑tasking ability
- Pass pre‑employment drug screening and successful background investigation
- Alaska Driver’s license or obtain one
- No felony conviction and no misdemeanor within last five years
- Receive calls and complaints from public; evaluate emergency nature; transfer call appropriately
- Dispatch emergency service personnel as necessary
- Establish priority action between multiple complaints received simultaneously
- Monitor radios and telephones of multiple agencies
- Dispatch and provide information and assistance to appropriate agencies on an as‑needed basis
- Maintain telephone/radio logs, case files, and incident reports
- Answer public inquiries concerning a variety of issues
- Maintain contact and log whereabouts of all agencies dispatched to a situation and officers on routine patrol
- Enter and disseminate information via APSIN

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently uses hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee occasionally is required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
Duties and Tasks Performed- Work rotating shifts, including nights, holidays, weekends; on an on‑call basis
- Work irregular duty assignments
- Work overtime as needed
- Work independently
- Monitor multiple alarm systems
- Attend educational training as required, plus other duties as assigned by the dispatch supervisor
- Receive and process 911 emergency calls, marine radio calls
- Maintain and log status and locations of all agencies dispatched
- Perform a number of clerical tasks, including typing police reports and complaints, updating computer data including the 911 system, compiling case files, maintaining logs and case cards
- Monitor radios and telephones for Alaska State Troopers, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, National Park Service, Camai Clinic, and The King Salmon Air Force Base
- Book, monitor and provide meals for inmates incarcerated in the detention facility
- Dispatch appropriate agencies to emergency and assistance calls from public
- Be certified to access the APSIN/NCIC system to process requests from officers, State Troopers, and other approved agencies for vehicle registrations and basic person information including warrants and criminal information
- Follow special instructions for the monitoring of juveniles being held
- Monitor the National Weather Warning and Alert system
- May be required to perform Department of Motor Vehicles duties
- Other duties as assigned
