Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Inpatient Pharmacist for a 13-week travel assignment in Sitka, Alaska.
This position is ideal for a pharmacist with recent hospital or inpatient pharmacy experience who can independently review medication orders, prepare and verify medications, support clinical decision-making, and respond effectively to urgent medication needs.
The pharmacist will work closely with physicians, nurses, pharmacy technicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, accurate, and appropriate medication therapy for hospitalized patients.
Candidates must hold an active, unrestricted Alaska pharmacist license, a PharmD degree, current BLS certification, and at least 1 year of inpatient pharmacy experience.
- Review and verify inpatient medication orders for accuracy, safety, dosage, allergies, interactions, duplication, and clinical appropriateness.
- Apply clinical knowledge and professional judgment when evaluating medication therapy.
- Prepare, compound, and dispense oral and intravenous medications according to established standards.
- Perform accurate pharmaceutical calculations for medication dosing and compounding.
- Monitor medication therapies for effectiveness, adverse reactions, contraindications, and potential drug interactions.
- Provide medication-related recommendations to physicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Support safe use of high-risk and complex medications.
- Verify medications prepared by pharmacy technicians and other authorized staff.
- Provide drug-information support to healthcare professionals and patients.
- Assist with medication reconciliation and transitions of care when required.
- Maintain accurate medication records and pharmacy documentation.
- Support controlled-substance accountability and medication security.
- Respond promptly to emergency and STAT medication requests.
- Utilize pharmacy information systems and other computer applications effectively.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacy staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, hospital, and pharmacy regulations.
- Follow medication-safety, infection-control, and quality standards.
- Prioritize workload appropriately during periods of high volume or frequent interruptions.
- PharmD degree
- Active, unrestricted Registered Pharmacist license in the State of Alaska
- Minimum 1 year of inpatient or hospital pharmacist experience
- Current BLS / BCLS for Healthcare Providers
- Strong knowledge of inpatient medication management
- Strong pharmaceutical calculation skills
- Ability to accurately calculate oral and intravenous medication doses
- Experience compounding medication formulations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Working knowledge of pharmacy and healthcare computer applications
- Ability to exercise sound professional and clinical judgment
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple responsibilities
- Ability to respond quickly to emergency medication requests
- Completion of an ASHP-recognized pharmacy residency program
- More than 1 year of recent inpatient hospital pharmacy experience
- Previous travel or contract pharmacy experience
- Clinical pharmacy experience
- Experience in a short-term acute-care hospital
- IV admixture and sterile compounding experience
- Experience with automated dispensing systems
- Antimicrobial stewardship experience
