Job Summary:
The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) provides therapeutic treatments under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist, supporting patient rehabilitation across various settings. The role involves implementing treatment plans, educating patients, and collaborating with healthcare team members to promote mobility and functional independence.
Responsibilities:
- Execute therapy interventions based on the physical therapist’s treatment plan to meet patient goals and ensure safety.
- Review clinical records, case histories, and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to coordinate care.
- Educate patients and families on therapeutic exercises, activities, and proper use of assistive devices to maximize rehabilitation outcomes.
- Document patient encounters, including diagnoses, treatments, progress, and recommendations, following hospital policies.
- Assist with fitting and training patients on durable medical equipment and adaptive devices.
- Participate in community outreach, home assessments, and off-site therapy services, including telehealth as needed.
Qualifications:
- Hold an associate degree from a CAPTE-accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program and current licensure.
- Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and valid driver’s license.
- Demonstrate knowledge of musculoskeletal physiology, treatment techniques, and relevant regulations.
- Possess strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information effectively.
- Experience in acute care hospital or outpatient settings preferred.
- Clinical competency and high-risk competency required within three months of hire, with ongoing renewal every three years.
