Crisis Behavioral Health Clinician

The Crisis Behavioral Health Clinician provides culturally relevant crisis intervention services to individuals experiencing behavioral, emotional, substance, and/or mental disorders. The clinician will be involved in evaluating individuals in crisis to determine the most appropriate level of care, including the potential for involuntary psychiatric hospitalization as per state regulations. This role includes a variety of behavioral health services such as intake and diagnostic evaluations, crisis counseling, and coordination of care with external agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide evidence-based crisis intervention services in a hospital setting.
  • Assess individuals in crisis to determine appropriate levels of care.
  • Implement state statutes related to psychiatric involuntary assessments.
  • Coordinate care with other agencies and facilities for comprehensive service delivery.
  • Support and communicate with family members and treatment teams to foster collaborative care.
  • Utilize Trauma-Informed Care in interactions with patients and the community.
  • Manage short-term mental health and substance use disorders within service settings.
  • Employ motivational interviewing and skill development techniques.
  • Document all services accurately and in compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Engage in professional development and training opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • State licensure as a Clinical Social Worker, Professional Counselor, or Marriage and Family Therapist is preferred.
  • Experience in a mental health or substance use treatment program or similar behavioral health social service agency is required.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health assessment and diagnostic evaluation criteria.
  • Understanding of treatment plan development focused on patient-centered goals.
Skills and Abilities
  • Aptitude for assessing patients at risk of self-harm or severe mental illness.
  • Ability to advocate for patients and coordinate necessary services.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in crisis situations.
  • Competence in maintaining confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA regulations.
Licensure and Certification
  • Valid State of Alaska Driver's License or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within three months of hire.
  • Alaska State Chemical Dependency Counselor I or equivalent certification preferred.
Work Environment

This position requires active engagement as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team, collaborating with various healthcare professionals to provide optimal care for patients in crisis.
