Job Title

The primary purpose of this position is to (1) maintain the inventory needed for efficient and effective operations & maintenance of the electric utility system and (2) maintain and monitor the history and ledgers for all department-related construction, labor, materials, and equipment costs. Under the direct supervision of the T&D System Manager, the employee works independently on assigned duties and responsibilities.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Planning, organizing, supervising, and coordinating the ordering, transporting, receiving, organizing, storing, and distribution of a large and varied inventory of equipment, supplies, or parts
  • Planning and managing the maintenance of inventory and control records, such as computerized databases and periodic physical inventories
  • Initiating purchase order requests to maintain inventory levels for regular operations
  • Sources, locates, and initiates purchase order requests in emergencies
  • Tracking, receiving, and inspecting incoming equipment, supplies, or parts for quality and quantity
  • Issuing and maintaining master lock and key system for the department
  • Cleaning, organizing, and maintaining warehouse and other material storage locations
  • Monitoring and tracking high-cost inventory and easily pilfered items
  • Conducting physical inventories and maintaining accurate records of all department equipment and supplies
  • Preparing and submitting to Finance project cost information to bill for department provided electrical or utility service
  • Maintaining records of completed electrical utility construction and street lighting installations
  • Establishing and maintaining good working relationships with vendors and suppliers
  • Performing other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of: modern storeroom and inventory procedures, filing systems, and computer equipment; governmental purchasing, preparation of contract documents, and bidding procedures; standard terminology used in engineering and construction industries; applicable standard grades and qualities of equipment, materials, parts, and supplies; municipal accounting principles, purchasing practices, and billing procedures. Skills in: multi-tasking with strong attention to detail; organizing work areas in a logical and efficient manner;

operating forklift and other material handling equipment; working with spreadsheets and data input. Ability to: learn and understand types of equipment, materials, parts, and supplies used in an electric utility which are typically requisitioned, received, and stored; dealing with a variety of people calmly and professionally, even if difficult or upset; communicate well with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language;

understand and follow oral and written policies, procedures and instructions; prepare and present accurate and reliable reports; use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and oral instructions; perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines; successfully work as part of a collaborative team to accomplish Utility goals and objectives;

quickly learn new skills and knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications & Other

Minimum qualifications:

HS Diploma or GED; and some general experience in procurement, warehousing, or accounting; or experience working at an electric utility in a warehouse, procurement, or accounting position, electric utility experience in Sitka, preferred; or any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work. Other job requirements or expectations: possession of a driver's license issued by the State of Alaska;

possession of a First Aid and CPR Certification; must be available and willing to be on 24-hours on-call when assigned and to respond to call-outs when needed and in emergency situations; employees are expected to wear right attire and Personal Protective Equipment ("PPE") for safety purposes for the work assigned.
