As the dedicated and reliable Maintenance Assistant at one of our Alaskan facilities, this role requires a strong work ethic and proficiency in performing various maintenance tasks within a fast‑paced seafood processing plant. The candidate must be able to clean, sanitize, and maintain equipment, assist with repairs, and support general facility upkeep. Work will be fast‑paced, requiring the ability to lift heavy loads, stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks while maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.

Functions/Qualifications

The responsibilities of the position include the following:

  • Clean and prepare job sites, load and deliver materials, and use tools and machines such as blowtorches, forklifts, levels, lifts, power drills, grinders, saws, pressure washers, and water spraying equipment.
  • Set up and take down ladders, scaffolding, and other temporary structures.
  • Assist carpenters, welders, and other specialized contractors as needed.
  • Transport materials and equipment within the facility.
  • Assist with routine maintenance tasks such as lubricating equipment, replacing worn parts, and identifying repair needs.
  • Perform frequent walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; lift or move up to 10 pounds routinely, up to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 70 pounds occasionally.
  • Complete other duties as assigned to support the facility and organization.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, cold environment with strong physical stamina and capability to lift heavy objects.
  • Basic mechanical skills and knowledge of hand tools.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
Work Environment and Schedule

The position involves regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet and/or humid conditions, and extreme cold. Employees may encounter high places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, electrical shock, vibration, and loud noise. The role requires onsite presence at an Alaska processing facility and may involve travel to various locations during the season.

Physical Demands

The role requires standing, walking, using hands to steer and reach, climbing, balancing, and occasionally sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Regular lifting up to 10 pounds, frequent lifting up to 25 pounds, and occasional lifting up to 50 or 70 pounds are required. Specific vision abilities include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
