Alaska Marine Safety Education Association Community Outreach - Ameri Corps Overview

Ameri Corps work focuses on reducing adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in rural Alaska through enrichment activities, academic assistance, mentoring, and outreach. Members serve 36‑40 hours per week, supporting youth and maritime communities.

• Mentor and tutor youth, providing academic support.
• Coordinate marine safety and public health outreach for commercial fishermen and maritime workers.
• Assist opioid overdose prevention through material development, surveys, and resource distribution.
• Conduct community‑based research by collaborating with fishermen, Elders, and institutions.
• Support grant capacity building, communications, and administrative tasks.
• Manage gear logistics and maintain a cooperative living environment.
• Participate in community activities such as clubs, cultural events, and tribal organizations.
