Provide anesthesia, airway management, and chronic pain management consultation at Mt Edgecumbe Hospital. Evaluate patient health status and synthesize anesthetic plan based upon risk factors and surgical requirements to ensure patient safety. The anesthetist is responsible for independently determining anesthetic techniques, pharmaceuticals, and procedures used, and altering anesthetic plan based on patient responses and changes in surgical conditions.
Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities:
Job Responsibilities- Provide clinical anesthesia service as scheduled.
- Perform pre‑anesthetic evaluations and determinations.
- Administer a variety of anesthetic agents.
- Provide post‑anesthetic follow‑up and management.
- Analyze and interpret complex medical data to deliver appropriate anesthetic care.
- Utilize complex medical and life‑support equipment to evaluate and care for anesthetized patients.
- Participate in all Medical Staff functions as requested.
- Respond to hospital emergencies requiring airway control.
- Provide educational programs on airway control, resuscitation, pharmacology, and anesthesia and pain management practices.
- Master’s degree from an accredited nurse anesthesia program or Certificate in Nursing Anesthesiology (prior to 1990).
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or another U.S. state.
- Learns as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist by State of Alaska Board of Nursing or another state.
- Certification by the National Board of Certification & Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- ATLS, ALSO, NRP, or STABLE certifications.
- Four (4) years of clinical anesthesia experience after completing training.
- Advanced understanding of human physiology, pharmacology, and response to surgical stressors.
- Expertise in the use of complex medical equipment for monitoring and evaluating patient response.
- Ability to evaluate and respond to abnormal respiratory status.
- Rapid recognition and evaluation of changes in patient condition.
- Technical expertise in airway management, including regional anesthesia.
- Ability to maintain control of rapidly evolving anesthesia care scenarios.
- Rapid synthesis of treatment modalities in emergency situations and independent operation without clinical supervision.
- Master’s degree accredited nurse anesthesia program OR Certificate in Nursing Anesthesiology (prior to 1990).
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or other U.S. state.
- Registered Nurse Anesthetist licensure by State of Alaska Board of Nursing and/or other state.
- Certification by National Board of Certification & Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.
