Overview
Under supervision of the Medical Director, the Cardiology Advanced Practice Professional (CAPP) coordinates cardiology services for SEARHC. The CAPP provides direct cardiology care and serves as the interface between patients, cardiologists, visiting specialists, and primary care physicians.
Key Responsibilities- Perform cardiology consultations and chronic cardiovascular disease management in the outpatient setting.
- Manage patients with coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, dysrhythmias, valvular disease, hypertension, and related conditions, including post‑procedure follow‑up.
- Consult and collaborate with cardiologists, other health professionals, and support staff to coordinate cardiac care and facilitate referrals.
- Conduct exercise treadmill tests (ETTs) and stress echocardiograms.
- Interpret EKGs, Holter monitors, and ambulatory blood pressure studies.
- Perform routine outpatient device interrogations, interpret findings, reprogram devices, and coordinate remote transmission and telephonic monitoring.
- Schedule patient follow‑ups for device evaluations, generator changes, upgrades, and manage device recalls or alerts.
- Maintain accurate device databases for clinical care and reimbursement purposes.
- Document orders and progress notes in accordance with SEARHC standards.
- Conduct quality assurance assessments and provide feedback to the Medical Director.
- Apply evidence‑based decision making in all clinical practice.
- Act as an expert consultant to physicians, nursing staff, and the healthcare team.
- Participate in accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
- Master of Science as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Active licensure in the State of Alaska (or pending Alaskan licensure as a direct hire employee).
- Specialty certification through ABCM, ANCC, or another nationally recognized cardiac care certification body.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- At least 5 years of supervisory experience in cardiology care.
- Proficient in cardiac device follow‑up and arrhythmia interpretation.
- Proficient in device programmers:
St. Jude, Boston Scientific, Medtronic, and others. - In-depth knowledge of cardiac device terminology, single and dual chamber pacemakers, ICDs, and related procedures.
- Strong grasp of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and cardiac disease processes.
- Expertise in ECG interpretation, atrial and ventricular EGM analysis, and stored device data evaluation.
- Excellent patient and interprofessional communication skills.
- Independent clinical decision making and critical data analysis.
- Leadership and staff management abilities, including task delegation.
- Proficiency with personal computer and healthcare software applications.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Work may extend beyond traditional hours and include off‑shift emergency response.
- Travel by jet, small aircraft, and ferry is required.
