Key Submission Requirements

  • Licensure: Active, unrestricted Alaska RN license required for agency/travel staff upon submittal. (Direct hires must have applied for an Alaska license prior to start date).
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in immunotherapy/chemotherapy specialty medications

  • Immunization: Proof of flu vaccine required.
  • Timeline & Onboarding:
    * Start date will be no less than 6 weeks after fingerprint cards are received for processing.
    * Fingerprint appointment must be scheduled and cards mailed within 2-3 days of offer acceptance to avoid start date delays.
Job Summary

The Infusion Services Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive care to patients receiving infusion therapies. Working in collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, the RN oversees referrals, administers specialty IV fluids and medications, monitors patient responses, and delivers patient and family education.

Core Responsibilities Infusion & Clinical Care
  • Administer specialty IV fluids via peripheral or central catheters (CVC, PICC) using prescribed order sets.
  • Maintain central line and IV access devices in accordance with INS/ONS and facility guidelines.
  • Observe, evaluate, and document patient responses to drugs, treatments, immunizations, and procedures; notify referring providers of significant changes or adverse reactions.
  • Review orders and coordinate with referring physicians, oncologists, and pharmacy prior to infusion administration.
  • Utilize knowledge of pharmacology, infection control, and safety precautions to initiate swift clinical interventions in crisis or emergency situations.
Care Coordination & Patient Flow
  • Facilitate and oversee infusion referrals for tests, procedures, and specialist follow-ups.
  • Coordinate appointment scheduling and ensure prior authorizations are initiated as required.
  • Review, post, and communicate test/examination results to referring providers and patients.
  • Educate patients and families on discharge care, treatment plans, and post-infusion expectations.
  • Convene patient care meetings with the interdisciplinary team when changes in condition warrant.
Clinic Administration & Quality
  • Supervise clinic staff and direct daily workflow to ensure optimal resource utilization and patient care flow.
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and compliant care environment.
  • Accurately document all clinical data and assessments in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) per regulatory standards.
  • Participate in departmental staff meetings, quality management activities, and continuing education.
Qualifications & Competencies
  • Licensure: Current, full, and unrestricted RN license in Alaska (or state of practice, per hiring type).
  • Certifications:
    * Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
    * Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required.
    * Clinical competency verification required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
  • Experience:
    * Minimum 1 year of clinical nursing experience (1+ year in an oncology/infusion specialty required).
    * Direct experience with chemotherapy and immunotherapy administration.
Key Skills & Abilities
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Proficiency with IV infusion pumps, central line maintenance, cardiac monitors, non-invasive blood pressure equipment, AEDs, EHR systems, and electronic medication inventory systems.
  • Clinical Decision-Making: Strong critical thinking skills to recognize subtle adverse symptoms and execute life-saving procedures promptly.
  • Patient Management: Ability to manage high patient volumes and care for multiple complex patients simultaneously.
Physical Demands
  • Activity: Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, reach, and use hands/fingers.
  • Movement: Frequently required to handle equipment; occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or climb.
  • Lifting: Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs
