RN - Infusion

Profession: Nursing

Shift: M-TH

Hours per Shift: 8am-5:30pm with a 30 min lunch break or 8am-5pm (no lunch break)

Experience: Minimum 2 years required

License: Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or other U.S. state required

Certifications: BLS and ACLS required

Must-Have: Experience in immunotherapy/chemotherapy specialty medications

Description:

The Registered Nurse for Infusion Services provides comprehensive nursing care to infusion patients.

Assists with the coordination of appointment scheduling for infusion patients.

Facilitates and oversees patient referrals for tests and treatments.

Observes and reports patients' conditions and reactions to drugs, treatments, immunizations, and procedures.

Assists with supervision of clinic staff for optimal daily patient care.

Participates in staff development activities to maintain current professional knowledge and licensure.

Assesses and prepares the needs of each infusion patient.

Ensures prior authorization is initiated as needed per the patient referral.

Administers specialty IV fluids via peripherally or centrally placed catheters.

Maintains IV access devices per guidelines.

Identifies, assesses, and diagnoses problems through patient assessment and interactions.

Prepares for infusion patients prior to administration by reviewing orders and communicating effectively.

Educates patients and their families about post-discharge care programs.

Initiates patient care meetings with the health care team as needed.

Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient care environment.

Provides guidance and direction to ensure quality patient care.

Keeps current on advances in oncology and infusion nursing care.

Oversees direct patient care in accordance with established protocols and physician orders.

Utilizes knowledge of medications and procedures to initiate appropriate interventions in crisis situations.

Provides safe, effective, and comprehensive infusion services and education to patients after discharge.

Supports and maintains a commitment to patient care standards.

Upholds principles of confidentiality and ethical behavior.

Participates in departmental meetings and quality management activities.

Complies with facility policies and procedures.

Possesses knowledge of disease processes and pharmacology related to patient care.

Demonstrates skills in operating medical devices and effective communication.

Exhibits leadership skills in a healthcare environment.

Has the ability to manage multiple patients and utilize critical thinking skills.

Recognizes adverse signs and symptoms and reacts promptly in emergency situations.

Provides excellent customer service with a patient-centered approach.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Regularly required to talk or hear.

Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle or feel.

Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Must be able to lift and/or move 50 lbs.
