QA​/QC Inspector- Mechanical​/Piping

Position Summary Airswift is currently looking for a QA/QC Inspector - Mechanical / Piping to be responsible for monitoring, inspecting, and verifying the quality of mechanical and piping construction activities performed by contractors and subcontractors. The Inspector ensures all work complies with project specifications, approved drawings, applicable codes and standards, quality requirements, and regulatory obligations. This position reports to on-site Construction Manager.

This position plays a key role in ensuring mechanical systems are installed correctly, tested successfully, and turned over to Commissioning and Operations with complete quality documentation. The role requires extensive field presence in a remote Arctic environment and close coordination with Construction, Engineering, Commissioning, Operations, and Contractor personnel.

• Mechanical and Piping Inspection
  • Conduct daily field inspections of mechanical and piping construction activities.
  • Verify installation complies with approved IFC drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Monitor contractor workmanship and adherence to approved procedures.
  • Verify proper installation of:
    • Process piping systems
    • Utility piping systems
    • Pumps and compressors
    • Pressure vessels
    • Heat exchangers
    • Packaged equipment
    • Valves and specialty items
    • Pipe supports and hangers
    • HVAC mechanical systems
    • Fuel, water, and utility systems
• Welding and Fabrication Surveillance
  • Verify welders possess current qualifications for assigned work.
  • Confirm welding activities are performed in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Monitor fit-up, welding, preheat, inter-pass temperature, post-weld activities, and bolted connections.
  • Verify weld identification and traceability requirements.
  • Review fabrication records and field welding documentation.
• Material Receiving and Verification
  • Inspect incoming mechanical and piping materials.
  • Verify materials match approved material specifications and purchase requirements.
  • Review mill test reports, certificates of compliance, and quality documentation as required.
  • Confirm proper storage, preservation, and handling of materials and equipment.
  • Verify material traceability throughout construction.
• Inspection and Testing – Witness and Document
  • Hydrostatic testing
  • Pneumatic testing
  • Leak testing
  • Equipment alignment checks
  • Mechanical run testing
  • Flushing and cleaning activities
  • Bolt torque and tensioning verification
  • Pressure system testing
• Non‑Destructive Examination (NDE)
  • Monitor NDE activities performed by contractors and third‑party inspectors.
  • Review NDE reports including:
    Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), Visual Testing (VT).
  • Verify corrective actions for rejected welds and identified deficiencies.
• Quality Documentation
  • Review contractor quality records for completeness and accuracy.
  • Verify Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) hold points and witness points are satisfied.
  • Maintain inspection reports and surveillance records.
  • Ensure turnover documentation is complete and properly filed.
• Non‑Conformance Management
  • Identify quality deficiencies and notify contractor supervision.
  • Participate in development and resolution of Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs).
  • Verify corrective actions have been completed and accepted.
  • Support root cause investigations when required.
• Mechanical Completion Support
  • Participate in system walkdowns and punch‑list development.
  • Verify completion of quality‑related punch‑list items.
  • Confirm systems meet mechanical completion requirements.
  • Support turnover to Commissioning and Operations teams.
• Safety and Environmental Compliance
  • Promote safe work practices and compliance with project safety requirements.
  • Participate in safety meetings and field observations.
  • Stop and report work that presents unacceptable safety or quality risks.
  • Support environmental compliance requirements during inspections.

• Education
  • Associate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent training in Mechanical Technology, Quality Assurance, Construction Technology, or related discipline preferred.
