Junior Geologist

Reports to the Project Geologist.

Collect rock and soil samples for geochemical analysis. This may include:

  • Channel sampling
  • Grid sampling
  • Ridge and spur sampling
  • Drill core sampling

Keep samples organized, labeled, and catalogued ensuring proper Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QAQC) measures.

Map the geology and alteration of project site(s).

Upload sample identification, GPS data, and geological mapping into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.

Perform some specialized tasks which may require on-the-job training. This may include:

  • Rope-access sampling
  • Providing geological expertise to drill rig operators such as determining when to end holes based on geology and drilling conditions.
  • Core logging
  • Minding the splitter on RC rigs

Write a daily report of work accomplished to the acting Project Manager and/or Senior Geologist including number and type of samples processed, location coordinates, and geologist notes.

Maintain a commitment to health and safety.

Ancillary duties as requested by the owner, or the acting Project Manager as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Staff Geologist

Reports to the Project Geologist or Project Manager.

Collection of rock and soil samples for geochemical analysis. This may include:

  • Channel sampling
  • Grid sampling
  • Ridge and spur sampling

Keep samples organized, labeled, and catalogued ensuring proper Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QAQC) measures and documentation.

Core logging, as needed.

Map the geology and alteration of project site(s).

Upload sample identification, GPS data, and geological mapping into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.

Plan sampling traverses based on known geology, terrain, and crew’s ability.

Perform some specialized tasks which may require on-the-job training.

Provide geological expertise to drill rig operators such as determining when to end holes based on geology and drilling conditions.

Supervise and train Junior and Staff Geologists.

Pick sample intervals on drill core, train and supervise core cutters.

Write and compile technical reports based on Project outcomes.

Maintain a commitment to health and safety.

Ancillary duties as requested by the owner, or the acting Project Manager as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Junior Geologist

Job Requirements

Qualifications/Skills

  • Attentive to detail and alert at all times to ensure safety.
  • Able to receive and follow instructions and communicate with co-workers.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy loads of up to 50 pounds, working outdoors in all weather conditions, traversing uneven rugged terrain, etc.).
  • Familiarity with power tools and machinery is a plus.
  • Ability to travel to and live in primitive remote work sites for up to 6 weeks.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related earth science; higher education is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to safely operate various vehicles and equipment in off-road environments.
  • Experience in exploratory geology, mining, or rock/soil sampling is an asset, but not necessary.
  • Experience in mountaineering and/or rock climbing is an asset, but not necessary.
Staff Geologist

  • Familiarity with power tools and machinery is a plus.
  • Ability to travel to and live in primitive remote work sites for up to 6 weeks.
  • Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder certification.
  • Firearm safety and proficiency, wildlife awareness and avoidance.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related earth science; higher education preferred.
  • Three to ten years’ experience in exploratory geology, mining, or rock/soil sampling.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to safely operate various vehicles and equipment in off-road environments.
  • Experience in mountaineering and/or rock climbing is an asset, but not necessary.
