Job Summary

Under general supervision, responsible for the performance of manual, semi‑skilled and limited‑skilled work in the care, maintenance and repair of County parks and park facilities.

Essential Job Functions
  • Perform semi‑skilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry and other tasks.
  • Lay water service pipes and open clogged sewers.
  • Operate tractors with mowing attachments and other light automotive equipment.
  • Operate various types of power equipment and hand tools.
  • Paint facilities.
  • Repair fences.
  • Plant, maintain, trim and remove ornamental plants, grasses, shrubs and trees.
  • Spray pesticides, herbicides, and water landscape areas.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and tools.
  • Provide routine maintenance on equipment; build forms for concrete work, mix and finish concrete; and perform manual cleanup of park area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Skill in operating tractors with mowing attachments and other light automotive equipment, various types of power equipment and hand tools, and chemical application equipment.
  • Knowledge of common practices, methods, tools and materials of varied maintenance construction work; hazards and safety precautions; and general park maintenance.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; perform heavy manual labor for extended periods; use hand and mechanical tools; develop skill in assigned operations; read and understand chemical labels.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Completion of eighth grade and over one year of experience as a laborer performing maintenance and/or construction work.

Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; present information to customers, clients and other employees.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure; compute rate, ratio, percent; draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability
Apply common sense to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; handle problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License;
Oklahoma Chemical Technician License.

Physical Demands

Regular use of hands, reaching, talking, hearing; frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; occasional sitting and climbing; ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Visual requirements include close, distance, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Exposure to outside weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, wet or humid conditions, vibration, and noise levels that are usually loud.
