Job Summary
The Scaffold Technician II is responsible for the safe erection, modification, inspection, and dismantling of scaffolding systems of various types and sizes in support of field operations. This role requires a skilled, journeyman-level scaffolder with a minimum of three years of apprenticeship experience and demonstrated competency in all phases of scaffold work, including understanding scaffold load ratings and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Working closely with supervisors, leads, and personnel from multiple crafts, the Scaffold Technician II assists with work planning and execution to support efficient project operations. As part of a multi-craft team, this position may also provide support for bolt‑up, insulation, and other maintenance or construction activities as needed.
This position is primarily based in Kuparuk and serves as a shared resource with Alpine. Travel and work assignments in the Alpine field may be required based on operational needs. Day and night shift work may be required.
Essential Duties- Demonstrate and promote safe work practices and adhere to company and client safety policies and procedures, including proper hazard recognition and mitigation of tasks.
- Participate in all AES and CPAI safety processes.
- Work inside a live Oil & Gas process facility and on active drilling well pads.
- Plan and execute the erection and dismantling of various types of scaffold systems.
- Support crafts including mechanical, piping, structural, insulation, instrumentation, corrosion inspection, facility, and operations.
- Interpret P&, ISO, and mechanical drawings, and design scaffolds accordingly.
- Use hand tools, power tools, electric and pneumatic tools following best and safe practices.
- Work in extreme conditions, including heights, heat/cold, and remote locations.
- Coordinate personnel, equipment, tools, and material needs to maintain safety and efficiency.
- Work in confined spaces and wear respirators.
- Perform duties outside normal craft as required.
- Ensure crews conduct work in a safe manner.
- Maintain effective communication among team members.
- Make decisions about daily tasks and give other crew members directions.
- Participate in daily toolbox meetings and weekly safety meetings.
- Encourage workers to maintain a safe, positive, and productive attitude.
- Report status of current projects and contribute to work‑related projects.
- Prepare and process various documentation, including permits.
- Work up to 18‑hour shifts on random occasions.
- Work day and night shifts as needed, arriving on time; shifts run from 6:00 to 6:00, sometimes longer.
- Build “Hooches.”
- Comply with company and customer policies and procedures.
- Support AES zero‑incident safety culture and assume personal accountability for safe work practices in all projects and activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid U.S. issued Driver’s License.
- North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification.
- Ability to work 80.5 hours per week on a 2×2 or 3×3 rotation in Kuparuk and/or Alpine.
- At least three (3) years of experience as a Scaffold Technician II or Scaffold Builder II.
- Scaffold Builder certification.
- Scaffold Training Institute (STI) certification or equivalent.
- Completion of OSHA Fall Protection training.
- OSHA Fall Protection certification.
- Five (5) or more years of experience working as a Scaffold Technician specifically in the Petrochemical or Oil and Gas industry, on the North Slope, and/or in other Arctic environments.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations regarding scaffold safety.
- Experience operating scaffolding equipment such as hoists and pulleys.
