JOB SUMMARY
The Crane & Heavy Equipment Operator reports directly to the Roads & Pads Foreman and is responsible for supporting field operations through the safe and efficient operation of cranes and heavy equipment. This position assists with project planning, coordinates daily work activities, and executes projects that support infrastructure, maintenance, and production operations throughout the Alpine Field.
Responsibilities include setting up and performing critical crane lifts, providing crane support for field activities, and operating a variety of heavy equipment such as mobile cranes, front‑end loaders, motor graders, excavators, snowblowers, dozers, skid steers, fuel trucks, super suckers, and tractor‑tire combinations. The role also maintains roads and drill‑site pads, performs snow removal, organizes materials, conducts equipment inspections, and supports the upkeep of field infrastructure.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong equipment operating skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to safety while working independently and as part of a team. Additional duties may include occasional roustabout responsibilities.
A valid U.S.
-issued, Alaska‑compliant Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements and a DOT Medical Card are required.
- Operate cranes and heavy equipment, including 150 ton Link‑Belt lattice crane, 100 ton RT crane, 90 ton RT crane, front‑end loader, motor grader, excavator, snowblower, dozer, skid steer, fuel truck, super sucker, and tractor‑tire combinations for Roads and Pads Operations & Maintenance.
- Plan, rig, and execute crane lifts, including boom configuration modifications.
- Execute rigging and signaling tasks.
- Inspect loads and secure equipment weighing up to 125,000 lb; interpret load charts for different tractor‑tire configurations.
- Support facility maintenance and construction with equipment.
- Provide equipment support for drilling rig moves.
- Perform physical labor such as installing roadway delineators, culvert covers, snow poles, pit liners, and setting up traffic control devices and barriers.
- Obtain OSHA certification for trenching and excavation and perform these activities safely.
- Use rotary lasers and site levels to establish grade, set grade hubs, and stakes.
- Prepare, update, and maintain logs, records, and timecards.
- Monitor equipment operation, conduct pre‑operation inspections, identify malfunctions, and fill maintenance requests.
- Inspect, adjust, and perform minor equipment repairs.
- Help maintain inventory of supplies, PPE, equipment, and tools.
- Support AES zero‑incident safety culture and assume personal accountability for safety practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid U.S. issued, Alaska‑compliant Class A CDL with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements.
- Current DOT Medical Card.
- NCCCO crane certifications for Large Hydraulics and Lattice.
- NSTC safety training certification.
- Ability to work 80.5 hours per week on a 3x3 rotation.
- At least five (5) years of experience operating hydraulic and lattice‑boom cranes.
- Five (5) or more years of experience operating front‑end loaders, motor graders, excavators, snow blowers, dozers, skid steers, fuel trucks, super suckers, and tractor‑tire combinations in construction or industrial settings, especially in the oil and gas or petrochemical industry, on the North Slope, or in an Arctic environment.
