Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Southcoast Region Highways and Aviation/M&O, is looking for an Equipment Operator, Journey 1/2/3 Lead (flex position) in King Salmon.
Salary Information- Equipment Operator Journey 1: $31.62 per hour – OT eligible
- Equipment Operator Journey 2: $33.44 per hour – OT eligible
- Equipment Operator Lead/Journey 3: $35.53 per hour – OT eligible
- Equipment Operator Journey 1:
Perform airport and highway maintenance at the State maintenance station, including a rural Part 139 certificated airport. Maintain State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in a safe and fully operable condition for public use. Comply with Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and State of Alaska regulations. Use light‑duty equipment for maintenance;
heavy‑equipment use is in training capacity. - Equipment Operator Journey 2:
Perform the same duties as Journey 1 with full compliance on all applicable regulations. - Equipment Operator Lead/Journey 3:
Same responsibilities as Journey 2 with additional leadership duties during two‑weeks‑off rotation to ensure operational continuity.
Two‑weeks‑on / two‑weeks‑off (2/2) rotational schedule. Lead responsibilities during off‑weeks from the Foreman. Rapid adaptation to extreme weather, remote and urban locations, and a variety of maintenance tasks is required.
Qualifications & Competencies- Knowledge of transportation principles for air, rail, sea, or road.
- Proficiency in operating motor vehicles, trucks, or watercraft.
- Problem‑solving: identify issues, evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations.
- Eye‑hand coordination for handling equipment and tasks.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Class A required; N‑Tanker endorsement required for Journey 2 and 3 within 90 days of hire. Conditional hire approval available for endorsements.
- Members of the Alaska public must meet eligibility requirements as defined by the DOT&PF residency definition.
- Must pass the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol testing program and comply with DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy.
