Ridham, Sittingbourne, Kent £20-£23 per hour

Alecto Recruitment is partnering with a leading organisation in the waste and recycling sector to recruit an experienced HGV Fitter for their busy workshop. This is a full‑time, permanent position offering stability, progression, and a strong benefits package.

Role Overview

As an HGV Fitter, you will be responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing a mixed fleet of vehicles, trailers, and associated equipment. You will diagnose faults, carry out repairs, complete preventative maintenance, and ensure all vehicles remain compliant, safe, and operating at peak performance.

This role suits a methodical, safety‑focused technician with strong mechanical knowledge and experience in an HGV workshop or fleet environment.

Key Responsibilities

Vehicle inspections - Conduct routine checks on vehicles, trailers, and equipment to identify defects, wear, and faults.

Diagnostics - Use diagnostic tools to test systems and pinpoint issues.

Repairs & Overhauls - Strip, repair, overhaul, and reassemble components as required.

Emergency Repairs - Attend call‑outs when needed to carry out urgent repairs and minimise downtime.

Preventative Maintenance - Complete scheduled servicing and maintenance to keep the fleet compliant and operational.

Record Keeping - Maintain accurate service, repair, and inspection records in line with company policy.

Road Testing - Test vehicles post‑repair to ensure faults have been resolved and performance meets standards.

Safety Compliance - Follow all health & safety procedures, using correct PPE and safe working practices.

Teamwork - Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain high workshop standards and communication.

Essential Skills & Experience

Previous experience working with HGVs in a workshop or fleet environment.

Strong understanding of diagnostics, repair processes, and vehicle systems.

HGV Class 1 Licence / CPC.

NVQ Level 2 in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent).

Competent with diagnostic equipment and hand tools.

Good communication skills and the ability to manage workload effectively.

Desirable

Experience working with DAF vehicles.

Background in the waste management industry.
