REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
POSITION OBJECTIVE: The job of Paraprofessional Special Education Classroom is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care and instruction of individual and/or small groups of special needs students in the classroom or community setting; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior; and providing clerical support to teachers and staff.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Adherence to safety practices in all tasks
- Proficient in operating standard office equipment and using relevant software applications
- Skilled in preparing and maintaining accurate records
- Ability to perform algebra and geometry calculations
- Skilled in reading manuals, writing documents in prescribed formats, and presenting information to others
- Capable of solving practical problems in various situations
- Knowledge of instructional procedures and practices
- Understanding of age-appropriate student activities
- Familiar with safety practices and procedures
- Skilled in conflict resolution
- Knowledgeable about stages of child development and behavior

- Support students in academic, social, behavioral, and functional skill development.
- Reinforce lessons by reviewing material with students individually or in small groups.
- Monitor student behavior, implement behavior intervention strategies, and promote positive interactions.
- Assist students with personal care needs (e.g., toileting, feeding, mobility, hygiene), as required.
- Supervise students during passing periods, lunch, field trips, and other non-classroom activities.
- Adapt classroom materials and modify activities to meet student needs.
- Operate and maintain instructional equipment and assistive technology.
- Collect and record data on student progress and behavior for teacher review.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with teachers, specialists, and other staff.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and information.
- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization's services.
WORKING ENVIRONMENTThe usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 25% walking, and 25% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
