Job OverviewOchsner Health is excited to open a new Surgical NICU at the Ochsner Main Campus on Jefferson Hwy in New Orleans, LA. We are searching for experienced Respiratory Therapists to work in the NICU. This opportunity offers competitive incentives including a sign‑on bonus and relocation assistance. The role provides respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing and ventilation support services to patients ranging in age from neonatal to geriatric.
Education& Experience
- Associate's Degree (required) – Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
- None required for work experience
- Current license as a Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice
- Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 90 days
- Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and information retrieval
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for clear professional presentation
- Proficiency with Windows‑style applications and role‑specific software packages
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Performs routine and advanced therapeutic procedures according to established policy and procedure
- Reviews and documents all clinical information regarding each patient
- Educates patients and co‑workers on procedures and treatment plans
- Performs diagnostic procedures and provides care based on physical; psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to the patient’s age
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction, and communication style
- Other related duties as required
- Very Heavy Work – Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly to move objects
- Requires stooping, bending, reaching, and grabbing with arms and hands; manual dexterity
- Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time and travel throughout and between facilities
- Works a flexible schedule (24/7, weekend, holiday, on‑call availability)
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, hazardous medications, and waste
