Position Summary

Slippery Rock University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology beginning August 2026.

Teaching responsibilities include Ecology and Biostatistics. The faculty member will also be required to teach introductory and advanced biology major courses, and non‑major courses for our general education program, as needed. Additional teaching responsibilities may include courses in an area of specialization.

Must exhibit a commitment to excellence in teaching in a Liberal Arts setting, establish a productive research program in the candidate’s area of expertise that will involve undergraduates, and membership/contribution to department, college, and university committees.

Faculty in the department are expected to engage in ongoing scholarly growth and professional development and to build a strong undergraduate research program that involves actively mentoring students. Slippery Rock University and the Department of Biology offer strong institutional support for teaching and research. The university has many resources for student and faculty scholarship and teaching in the ecological sciences, including ecological field plots, a sustainability center, newly installed growth chambers, an herbarium, state‑of‑the‑art microscopy facilities, and extensive public lands within a short drive of campus.

Moreover, the Department of Biology is research‑active, with faculty pursuing diverse interests that create a highly collaborative environment and foster interdisciplinary research.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Broadly trained ecologist with PhD in Biology or related field completed by July 1, 2026.
  • Evidence of professional competence, and ability to work productively with students and colleagues.
  • Commitment to the education of diverse populations.
  • Successful performance in an on‑campus interview, including a teaching and a research presentation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate teaching and the potential for teaching effectiveness.
  • Candidates should also demonstrate the potential to engage in field‑based teaching and have an ability to teach upper‑level biostatistics and ecology courses.
