Position SummaryThe SRU Art Department is seeking a full-time temporary instructor for the academic year to teach two Art History courses each semester, in addition to two general education multidisciplinary art courses for non-majors. This is a one-year full-time position with benefits; salary commensurate with experience. The position is open to candidates with expertise in any area of art history, with a preference given to Art Historians who can teach a wide array of courses, including the ability to teach a general education course in Visual Art Inquiry, plus Overviews of Western and World Art History and upper-level courses covering eras from the Renaissance to Contemporary, plus options for other specialized period survey courses.
The teaching load will be 4-4 (12 credit workload). Courses will include core fine arts courses, global surveys of art history, and upper division courses. Departmental service and continued scholarly growth is expected. Finalists will be required to give a teaching demonstration; full consideration given to applications received on or before March 27, 2026.
PhD in Art History. ABD Candidates will be considered. Submission of Teaching Philosophy and Professional Writing Samples are required. Successful performance in an interview and teaching demonstration are required. Candidates should display commitment to the education of diverse populations. Applicants are encouraged to articulate how they bring an ethos of valuing diversity to their work as educators.
Preferred QualificationsPhD in Art History is Preferred. 1-3 years college teaching Art History experience preferred. Clear evidence of teaching excellence beyond the traditional classroom.
