Geologist/General Science Instructor | Temporary Full-Time AY | Physical Science I02492
Slippery Rock University invites applications for a temporary, full‑time position in the Department of Chemistry and Environmental Geosciences beginning August 2026 for the 2026‑2027 academic year.
We are seeking a broadly trained geologist to teach undergraduate courses in hydrology and/or mineralogy/petrology, as well as general education science courses for non‑majors. The faculty member will also prepare accompanying laboratory activities to support these courses.
In addition to teaching duties, the instructor is expected to participate in scholarly growth, professional development, and service per the collective bargaining agreement, and to hold student consultation hours (office hours) in accordance with the agreement. The position will be 100% in person.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate courses in hydrology and/or mineralogy/petrology, and general education science courses.
- Prepare and update course materials, including laboratory activities.
- Hold student consultation hours (office hours).
- Participate in departmental scholarly growth, professional development, and service per the collective bargaining agreement.
- PhD in geology, environmental science, or a related discipline.
- Commitment to the education of a diverse population.
- Experience teaching geology or hydrology at the undergraduate level.
Applicants must submit a cover letter, current CV, teaching philosophy, and brief research proposal. Cover letter ≤ 2 pages; teaching philosophy ≤ 3 pages; research proposal ≤ 3 pages. Graduate and undergraduate transcripts are required. At least three references are required. Candidates will be required to complete criminal background checks and FBI clearance prior to appointment.
