Position Summary Information
Position Summary
This is skilled work in the installation, troubleshooting, repair, replacement, and maintenance of electrical systems, components, and equipment that operate with up to 480 volts of electricity.
Locates, troubleshoots, and resolves power failures and circuitry issues; and installs and commissions a variety of electrical systems, components, equipment, and fixtures.
Tests equipment and connections; removing, repairing, and replacing defective controls and components; cutting, bending, tightening, splicing, soldering, and insulating wiring; and measuring, cutting, bending, and running conduit.
Work includes preventative maintenance on electrical equipment, panels, and generators; reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and manufacturers' manuals; and assigning and demonstrating electrical related tasks to other employees during the completion of specific work assignments.
Work is performed independently and reviewed upon completion for adherence to guidelines and quality and timeliness standards.
Determines materials, sequence of tasks, and work methods needed for installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance assignments.
Troubleshoots issues and restores power to a wide variety of building equipment, such as lighting fixtures, HVAC units, fans, floor scrubbers, circulating pumps, water heaters, refrigeration units, security camera systems, fire detection and alarm systems, and commercial kitchen appliances.
Disassembles, tests, repairs or replaces components, and reassembles a wide variety of building equipment and fixtures with electric motors, power circuitry, and electronic controls.
Uses hand and power tools to measure, cut, bend, and run wire and conduit to specific lengths and angles.
Uses a variety of testing instruments to trace and diagnose power issues, including test lights, ohmmeters, ammeters, megger meters, voltmeters, oscilloscopes, and circuit tracers.
Commissions electrical installation, repair, and replacement work and tests, troubleshoots, and resolves issues identified in the commissioning process.
Reads and interprets schematic drawings and blueprints and identifies the location for wire connections; the type, size, and measurements of wire, conduit, couplings, and fittings; and the type and placement of the electrical devices to be installed.
Replaces worn or failed switches, relays, and outlets.
Performs preventative maintenance on back-up power generators, including checking the battery, hoses, emergency lighting, wiring, and antifreeze levels.
Resets circuit breakers after power outages and tests electrical operations to ensure electrical systems and equipment are functional.
Estimates time and materials needed for repairs.
Monitors and maintains supplies and notifies supervisor for replenishment.
Complies with safety regulations and standards for work assignments, including wearing personal protective equipment.
Maintains knowledge of electrical codes for electrical systems, components, and equipment.
Demonstrates and provides instruction to other trades and maintenance employees on electrical-related tasks.
An employee in this job participates in the performance of other trades' tasks consistent with operational and organizational requirements.
Operates motor vehicles.
Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Four years experience in the electrical trade or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; licensure as a journey electrician or master electrician. A successful campus interview and passing a criminal background check required.
