Position: Construction Technician II - NEW HIGHER PAY!

Construction Technician

The Challenge We are looking for an experienced Construction Technician to join our Division 4 Construction team. In this role you will:

  • Support senior technicians and engineers in functional areas such as construction inspection, surveying, material sampling and testing, and construction traffic control.
  • Perform standardized and non-standardized tests and assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing, and processing field data.
  • Supervise junior technicians and contractors, and assist in the coordination of work assignments.
  • Perform highway construction surveying and layout.
  • Keep diaries on project operations.
  • Complete material reports.
  • Document pay records.
  • Perform construction calculations and computer/iPad data entry.

What You Bring

  • Strong recordkeeping skills to complete daily diaries, survey notes and other record-keeping items manually and electronically.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing.
  • Knowledge and understanding of NCDOT highway and bridge construction.
  • Knowledge in understanding contracts, plans, standards and specifications.
  • Experience performing inspections, samplings, and materials testing (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications.
  • Computer skills using iPads, laptops, software (HiCams, Microsoft Office, and SharePoint), and math functions
  • Working knowledge of pay record book entries and material received reports.
  • Solid communications skills to build and maintain positive lines of communication between technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public.
  • Ability to make independent decision-making and good use of judgement.
  • Strong skills in documentation and ability to take some corrective actions and apply safety philosophy/program to all operations.
  • Strong match skills to perform construction-related calculations.
  • Ability to acquire certifications, including QMS Asphalt, Concrete Testing, and Borrow Pit Sampling.
  • Strength to lift 40 to 50 pounds.
  • Agility to work in high traffic areas, at heights over water or traffic, extreme temperatures, and uneven terrain.

Education & Experience

  • Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
  • 2+ years relevant technician-level experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Notes

  • You may also be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours if needed.
  • Safety toe shoes are required.
  • A Driver's License is preferred.
