No two days in Extension are ever the same, there is always something new! Extension Agents are active in their communities and often need to meet the clients when and where they are available. This is not your typical desk job.

The position may be hired at the Assistant, Associate or Full Agent level if the selected candidate meets the required qualifications.

• Provide leadership for developing, implementing, evaluating, and marketing effective education programs in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS), including foods, nutrition, health and wellness.
• Collaborate and network with other agencies, groups, and organizations with similar missions.
• Work independently with minimal supervision; manage multiple tasks and adapt to public demands.
• Serve as a team player with Johnston Extension staff and other county organizations on multidisciplinary programs.
• Demonstrate subject‑matter expertise and commitment to continual learning as trends emerge.
• Communicate clearly and organize outreach activities; work with individuals and broad audiences.
• Prepare and deliver educational resources for face‑to‑face settings, written materials, internet, and social media platforms.

• Reporting on program impacts, including gathering data and preparing reports for stakeholders.
• Attending trainings and engaging in professional development opportunities.
• Conduct collaborative programs with County Extension staff and other County departments.
• Build networking coalitions and manage time and resources efficiently.
• Possess food safety certification (Serv Safe or Safe Plates) – highly desirable.
• Experience with value‑added agricultural products, commercial kitchen development and facilitation, food truck certification programs, and local foods coordination.
• Offer educational opportunities in food preservation; training will be provided.
• Work with school‑age children and adults from diverse backgrounds.
• Support youth education efforts in collaboration with 4‑H Youth Development, delivering program on nutrition, life skills, and health education through schools, camps, and community settings.

• Computer literacy:
  Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Excellent time and resource management skills.
• Personable; able to build networking coalitions.

• Bachelor’s degree with GPA 2.5 overall or 3.0 in Family and Consumer Sciences (or related field) on a 4.0 scale.
• Bachelor’s degree with at least one‑half of Master’s coursework (3.0 GPA) in the related field.
• Master’s degree with at least one degree in the related field.
• GPA requirement waived for NCCE Program Associates with a bachelor’s degree.
• Valid NC Driver’s License required. Commercial Driver’s License not required.

Recruitment range:
Minimum Bachelor’s $40,000;
Minimum Master’s $45,000;
Minimum Doctorate $50,000, commensurate with experience.
