Job Description

This position is for a Social Studies Teacher who will plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.

Responsibilities
  • A. Management of Instructional Time – The teacher prepares materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson, starts the class quickly, and maintains high student time‑on‑task.
  • B. Management of Student Behavior – The teacher establishes and enforces rules and procedures for academic and behavioral expectations, monitors all students during activities and transitions, and stops inappropriate behavior promptly while maintaining student dignity.
  • C. Instructional Presentation – The teacher reviews previous material, introduces objectives, presents content clearly, provides examples, assigns tasks, asks appropriate questions, and summarizes key points.
  • D. Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance – The teacher circulates during class work to check performance, uses written and oral assessments, and sets clear work standards.
  • E. Instructional Feedback – The teacher gives timely feedback on in‑class and out‑of‑class work, confirms correct responses, and supports learning after errors.
  • F. Facilitating Instruction – The teacher develops an instructional plan aligned with curricular goals, uses diagnostic data to revise objectives, maintains accurate records, and allocates human and material resources effectively.
  • G. Interacting Within the Educational Environment – The teacher treats all students fairly, and interacts effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and community members.
  • H. Performing Non‑Instructional Duties – The teacher carries out assigned non‑instructional duties, follows laws and policies, and demonstrates professional growth.
Minimum Training and Experience

Degree in education or related area that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be able to use a variety of classroom equipment and tools.
  • Ability to compare and judge data, people, or things.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills for giving and receiving instructions.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and preparing correspondence, reports, and instructional materials.
  • Logical thinking to define problems, collect data, and draw conclusions.
  • Verbal aptitude for explaining procedures and following instructions.
  • Numerical aptitude for using formulas, arithmetic, and statistics.
  • Spatial ability to inspect items for size and shape.
  • Motor coordination for using office equipment.
  • Manual dexterity for handling tools and equipment.
  • Color discrimination to differentiate shades.
  • Interpersonal temperament to handle stress and emergencies.
  • Physical communication skills to talk and hear, including telephone use.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Constantly monitor student safety and well‑being, especially during inclusive activities.
  • Motivate students.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment and perform general clerical duties.
  • Maintain order and discipline in a classroom.
  • Operate common office machinery and maintain basic files.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by assignments.
