QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bilingual (English/Spanish) both literacy and oral proficiency

* Honest work ethic

* Strong academic skills

* Desire to serve the LEP and migrant populations

* Excellent communications skills

* Willingness to be a team player

KNOWLEDGE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Translate for teacher/parent conferences

* Interpret for PTA/PTO meetings

* Translate newsletters, school notes, and other written communication sent to Spanish speaking community members

* Initiates and provides support for establishing and coordinating parent involvement activities at the school and district levels

* Conduct workshops and training sessions for parents of English Language Learning students

* Help English Language Learning children and families transition to Kindergarten

* Translates documents and communications into Spanish to be shared with parents and other Spanish speaking community members

* Serves as a liaison from English as a Second Language Program on the District Parent Advisory Committees

* Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Exert a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

* Due to amount of time spent standing and/or walking, requirements are consistent with those for light work.

ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND

EXPERIENCE:

* High school diploma or GED from regionally or nationally accredited institution

* Must possess a NC driver's license
