We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for the Duke Cancer Network to practice at the Johnston Hematology Oncology Clinic in Smithfield, NC. The APP will provide hematology/oncology care to community patients, participate in clinical trials, offer education, and collaborate to improve the program. Primary hours are Monday through Friday day shift with flexible hours to meet patient needs and rotational on‑call responsibilities as assigned.
The APP will work with attending providers to manage inpatient consults in a timely manner.
- Coordinate clinical practice and clinical program services under the supervision of a physician, including managing a caseload of patients, collaborating to set priorities, establishing outcomes, and evaluating effectiveness and efficiency of patient care.
- Maintain prescriptive authority in alignment with Duke and regulatory standards at all times based upon licensing.
- Develop, implement, and engage in Quality Improvement Program initiatives, collaborating with DCN and local teams to identify areas of improvement.
- Participate in the design and execution of educational programs, assessing educational needs of DCN affiliate organizations; implementing and evaluating programs; serving as a mentor for healthcare learners; and developing patient/family educational interventions.
- Promote, participate, and engage in research in full compliance with regulatory requirements and incorporate research findings into standards of care.
- Enhance the professional image of PAs and NPs by participating in leadership activities at Duke, DCN and affiliated sites and remaining current with trends and changes in practice through organizational meetings, education, research and other activities.
- Assist with orientation of new providers, patient scheduling and coverage, presentations, and special projects as assigned.
- Need an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a Master’s degree in Nursing.
- Need an accredited Physician Assistant program; a Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Nurse Practitioners: current or compact RN licensure & NP approval to practice in North Carolina; BLS required; national NP certification required.
- Physician Assistants: licensed in North Carolina; certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants; BLS required.
- Both: DEA license with prescriptive authority required.
- 1+ years of APP experience preferred.
Monday-Friday, day shift with flexibility to meet clinic needs, a minimum of 8 four‑hour clinic sessions per week. Rotational on‑call responsibilities as assigned.
