Assistant Director for Student-Athletes – Undergraduate Advising
Position Summary
The Undergraduate Advising Office provides academic advising and related program and policy information for undergraduate students, and coordinates with other members of the Bryant community regarding student retention initiatives. This position is responsible for the administration of academic programs for undergraduate students with specific accountability for the efficient and effective management of academic advising services for all student‑athletes, including supporting the campus‑wide advising and counseling programs which promote student academic success.
This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Student Success Programs and Services.
Principal Accountabilities
- Manage a student‑athlete caseload
- Directly supervise and mentor the Student‑Athlete Academic Advisors
- Collaborate with faculty, coaches, learning specialists and any other athletic or non‑athletic staff pertaining to any student‑athlete situations; this also includes other offices such as Registrar, Accessibility Services, Amica Center for Career Education, Academic Center for Excellence, Counseling, Center for Diversity and Inclusion amongst others
- Oversee the effective implementation of key programs and events, including Life Skills programming, the Dean’s List Halftime Event, and Guest Coach initiatives; assign and supervise Student‑Athlete Academic Advisors as program leads to ensure successful execution.
- Oversee data entry and reporting within the ARMS system to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely submission.
- Evaluate transfer credits for prospective student‑athletes to assess progress toward degree completion in accordance with institutional academic policies.
- Work closely with athletics compliance staff:
Serve as a continuing eligibility certification officer for the University. - Work closely with the Executive Director of Student Success Programs and Services to assure timely and careful completion of student‑athlete eligibility. Maintain integrity of certification process and associated records.
- Stay abreast of NCAA legislation and regulation
- Coordinate injury report communications when students are missing classes
- Assist in scheduling, preparing, and presenting programs for registration and orientation for all incoming students as well as pre‑registration for all continuing students; maintaining appropriate student records within the University’s database; assist in the review of final grades, and analyzing the academic parameters achieved to determine honors, probation, or dismissal status; and certifying graduates
Qualifications
This position is best filled by an individual with 3 – 5 years of progressively responsible experience in academic advising or related field. Also best filled by an individual with or in pursuit of a Master’s degree in a related field, and demonstrated knowledge of academic advising. Ability to utilize computerized registration and degree audit applications is required; SCT Banner, EAB Navigate
360, and Degree Works experience is desirable. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are required to effectively advise students and interact with faculty and staff. Experience interpreting and administering academic policies is preferred. International, cultural and language experiences/skills although not required are encouraged. This position works within an office setting at the University and performs work that primarily involves sitting/standing. Regular attendance at assigned job site and the ability to work collaboratively with co‑workers and constituents are essential functions of this position. This position may require some non‑standard hours.
